Week 3 Recap: Awareness Month Continues!

Week 3 for the Virtual Walk was a huge success! We had many individual walkers from across the country out spreading awareness! The Alpha-1 Community has reached 92% of the$70,000 goal. Help us cross the finish line in this last week, we cannot do it without the determination from the Alpha-1 Community.

Team Unicorns walked this past the weekend in Zephyrhills, Florida. Wendy Edwards did a phenomenal job putting together her first walk with support from local businesses who donated raffle items. Donations included restaurant discounts, gift certificates, spa treatments, , book gift baskets, gardening gift baskets and much more. Joining her on the big day were several Alphas and AlphaNet Coordinators. Thank you, Team Unicorns, for coming together and helping to raise funds!

Let’s have a look at some amazing people spreading awareness!! #A1FVW22

Mini Smith shared a photo from the Team Smith Walk in Virginia Beach, Virginia. The Smith’s have been participating in the Virtual Walk for four years. New to her team were her niece and nephew supporting the walk while her husband is currently deployed with the Navy. Thank you for his service for our country.

Lauren Herin from Team JPH and team members from across the country walked in memory of her father. Lauren started early over the weekend and walked before the massive snowfall.

Marilyn Bailey shared a great picture walking on her treadmill. Marilyn is 82 and is walking for her team “Family 15” and has walked 26 miles to date! She has her family’s picture displayed on her treadmill and is using the Virtual Walk Challenge Calendar to count her steps.

Norma Leising and Steve Faucett are walking on their treadmill, as well. Norma is the Support Group Leader for Reno-Tahoe Alpha-1 Support Group and an amazing caretaker for Steve. Thanks so much for all you do throughout the year!

Dan Grimm team captain of the “Bluegrass Breathers” remarked “We had team members with slightly different weather conditions throughout the country walk over the weekend. Patty Meyers Hammond from The Villages in Florida and myself near Buffalo, New York were just two old friends walking for a cure for Alpha-1 in totally different climates.” Thank you so much Dan and stay warm from all that snow!

A big shoutout to Mike Allen, co-support Group Leader for the Capital Region of NY Alpha-1 Support Group who is spreading awareness in a unique way this year! Mike shared with us a few shots from Team Alpha-1 Racing Cars. The virtual racing will have two more races for Alpha-1 this November.

We would like to give a special thank you to the Executive Leadership at Grifols and the Alpha-1 Foundation team that met during the month.

Thank you to all the teams and individual walkers, now LET’S CURE IT and let’s cross that finish line together! Please continue to send pictures to Irene Calderon at icalderon@alpha1.org and post on social media using the #A1FVW22 to be featured!
