Connected and united in advancing public policy

Lobby DayOn June 5th, prior to the Alpha-1 National Conference in Washington D.C, the Alpha-1 Association and the Alpha-1 Foundation hosted a Congressional Briefing on Capitol Hill to discuss Alpha-1, COPD, and the life-saving advantages of access to care for those with Alpha-1. Because of the fact that you, our Alpha-1 Grassroots advocacy network, made phone calls and sent e-mails asking your lawmaker or one of their Legislative Aides to attend this Briefing, turnout was terrific and the briefing room was full! In fact, many in attendance were able to learn about Alpha-1 for the first time. Indeed, patient advocacy makes a difference!

In addition to the briefing, Alpha-1 Grassroots advocates Bruce Miles, Cathy Gould, Dave Perreault, DC Young, Henry Moehring, Ken Benson, Neva Maynor, Nora Roy and Tom Corron went on a total of twenty-two Congressional visits to not only tell their personal Alpha-1 story but to also discuss issues pertaining to access to care. The enthusiasm, dedication and passion of all these advocates on Capitol Hill was an inspiration.

Alpha-1 Advocates can be a powerful force when members are connected and united in advancing public policy. I encourage you to watch the Advocacy Training Video and to also become an Alpha-1 Advocate today.

A big thank you goes to Baxter, CSL Behring and Grifols. Their generous support helps us advocate on issues that affect the Alpha-1 community.
