Alpha-1 Foundation Continuing Medical Education Series

This series is designed to aid in the knowledge, diagnostic and treatment competence needs to improve as clinicians and healthcare providers need to learn about Alpha-1 Antitrypsin Deficiency.

Alpha-1 Antitrypsin Deficiency (AATD) is a rare disease that is often misdiagnosed. As a result, patients can go a long time without receiving the proper care or treatment causing their condition to deteriorate more rapidly than if the care or treatment had been provided sooner.  At least 100,000 Americans have Alpha-1 Antitrypsin Deficiency (Alpha-1).

Targeted Audience

The professional education program will target various types of healthcare professionals, including, pulmonologists, hepatologists, pediatric lung and liver physicians, liver and lung transplant physicians, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, genetics counselors, respiratory therapists, and internal medicine/general medicine physicians. An AMA/PRA Category 1 Credit will be earned for this Activity. Patients and caregivers are welcome to view the videos but no credits will be given

Learning Objectives (but not limited to)

  • Recognize the clinical spectrum of lung disease in Alpha-1 Antitrypsin Deficiency
  • Apply current guidelines and recommendations for Alpha-1 Antitrypsin Deficiency testing
  • Recognize the epidemiology of Alpha-1
  • Develop an effective treatment strategy to manage patients with Alpha-1 Antitrypsin Deficiency
  • Identify risk factors for liver disease in Alpha-1 Antitrypsin Deficiency
  • Apply current guidelines and recommendations for Alpha-1 Antitrypsin Deficiency testing for liver-affected children
  • Recognize the benefits of pulmonary rehabilitation and how to prescribe pulmonary

Alpha-1 Foundation Continuing Medical Education is an Accredited Program

The Foundation has partnered with the Cleveland Clinic, which is accrediting the program, to develop this new healthcare professional, medical education program.
