Sherry Gochenour, of Rockingham County, VA, was once a runner.
Diagnosed with Alpha-1 three years ago, “now I can’t even walk to the mailbox,” she said in an interview broadcast Thursday on WHSV TV-3.
In the interview, Gochenour and her husband spoke about the experience of living with Alpha-1, but also showed it, allowing the news crew to film her weekly augmentation therapy infusion.
Gochenour, determined to raise awareness of Alpha-1, approached Virginia’s U.S. Sen. Mark Warner and Rep. Bob Goodlatte, and secured a state proclamation declaring November Alpha-1 Awareness Month in the state.
“I made up my mind I’m going to make a difference,” Gochenour said.
