Alpha-1 Antitrypsin Deficiency 101: Lung & Liver

Alan Barker, MD's, Bio:plus

Dr. Alan Barker is Professor of Medicine at Oregon Health and Science University. He has been involved in the Alpha-1 community for 25 years performing patient care and consultations, being part of national collaborative clinical research, leading educational activities, and promoting awareness efforts. He directs the OHSU Alpha-1 Foundation Center of Excellence in Portland, organizes and attends a monthly education and support group, and organizes and participates in an annual regional educational forum for Alphas, their families and friends.

Robert Sandblom, MD's, Bio:plus

Robert (Rob) Sandblom is a Pulmonary/Critical Care/Sleep consultant with Group Health in Bellevue. He attended University of Washington for both his undergraduate degree in Biology 1968-1972 and Medical School 1972-1976. He completed his Internal Medicine Residency and Chief Residency at the University of New Mexico in 1980, then returned to the University of Washington for his Pulmonary and Critical Care Fellowship. He began to work for Group Health in 1982, and has remained with Group Health ever since. He has a long interest in Alpha-1 Antitrypsin Deficiency and was involved in some of the early research with National Institute of Health on replacement therapy. He participated in the Alpha-1 Antitrypsin Registry and continues to volunteer time for both the University of Washington as clinical faculty, and Group Health and non-Group Health patients with Alpha-1 Antitrypsin Deficiency.
