Running and Raising Awareness

 

My name is Misti Bruderer and last year my daughter Saddie (SZ) was diagnosed with Alpha-1.  My son Easton (MZ) is just a carrier.  My husband, Marshall, and I were distraught and tried to learn all we could about this disease that we had never heard of but now is a common name in our family.  Unfortunately, Saddie already has elevated liver levels and so is tested often.  I wanted to do more than just sit around and worry, so I decided to raise money for Alpha-1 research. 
 
I started a Firstgiving Page http://www.firstgiving.com/mistibruderer, which was so easy, and decided to run the Salt Lake Half Marathon race to raise money!  My brother's insurance company Archibald State Farm Insurance sponsored our shirts and I had many wonderful people volunteer to run with me and sponsor me.  It was an unbelievable experience.  ABC News 4 in Utah actually did a little piece on my run!!!!   

I was able to raise $880!  It was such a wonderful experience and one small way to get the word out!!!!!!!  I would like to do it again next year and possibly have a bigger turn out.
