Alpha-1 Antitrypsin Genetic Modifier Study (AATGM.study@channing.harvard.edu) Participation aids Scientific Research The Alpha-1 Foundation is a not-for-profit organization headquartered in Miami dedicated to providing the leadership and resources that will result in increased research, improved health, worldwide detection, and a cure for Alpha-1 Antitrypsin Deficiency. Contracted by pharmaceutical sponsors to provide support services for clinical trials. A joint venture of the Alpha-1 Foundation and the University of Florida, the A-1 research program is constantly adding to the Alpha-1 body of knowledge. Participate in Clinical Trials Cholestatic Liver Disease Consortium Provides support and information for children and families with rare cholestatic liver diseases. Research Opportunities Jeffrey Teckman,M.D. is studying the Contribution of Genetic Modulators of Disease Severity in Alpha-1 and Cystic Fibrosis. He is recruiting individuals with Alpha-1 liver disease to look for the CF gene and other genes that may be part of what causes the liver problems. The goal of the project is to get a better understanding of the genetic mechanisms affecting Alpha-1 which will ultimately result in better ways of predicting disease severity; and new treatments for Alpha-1. He will recruit and draw blood during the National Education Conference for this study. |
