The Alpha-1 Association has aligned with a number of special initiatives along with strategic partners to accomplish its public objectives and to provide timely information on issues of importance to the Alpha-1 Community. Currently these initiatives include:

Respiratory Therapy Medicare Statute

• Partnering with the American Association of Respiratory Care (AARC) to ask Congress to recognize qualified respiratory therapists and the services they furnish by amending the Medicare statute.

Organ Allocation

• Working with the Alpha-1 Foundation regarding organ allocation by petitioning to UNOS to establish a separate LAS grouping for Alphas.

Genetic Information Non-Discrimination Act

• Providing ongoing updates on GINA legislation via the Genetic Alliance

Airline Oxygen

• Partnering with Airline Oxygen Counsel of America (AOCA) to provide information on airline oxygen.
