Canadian regulators have granted approval to Talecris Pharmaceuticals to sell a new version of its protein therapy Prolastin, the Research Triangle Park-based company announced Wednesday.
The new product, called Prolastin-C, is a more concentrated formulation of Prolastin, which has been on the market for two decades. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration approved Prolastin-C for sale in October. Prolastin, which is delivered via a plasma infusion, helps patients who have alpha1-antitrypsin deficiency, a condition that can lead to emphysema. The more concentrated Prolastin-C can halve the time required to administer the protein therapy. Talecris (Nasdaq: TLCR), which makes therapies derived from human plasma, has about 2,000 employees in the Raleigh-Durham area, with about 1,500 of them working at the company’s manufacturing facility in Clayton. |
