Ed Brailey and his wife Jo Anne has been involved with the Alpha-1 Association since his diagnosis of Alpha-1 more than a decade ago. He served as a long-time Support Group leader for Connecticut and has been actively involved with the Alpha-1 Association since he was elected to the Board in 2006. He served as Vice Chair of the Alpha-1 Association for two years and was elected Chair in June 2010.
As a bike team leader for the American Lung Association Bike Trek at Cape Cod, he spearheaded “Team Brailey”, comprised of firefighters, police officers, and life long friends to raise funds for the Alpha-1 Association. Ed reports that over the past six years, they have raised thousands of dollars to support a cure for Alpha 1, through the trek. He has also raised funds for the Association through spaghetti dinners, silent auctions, and raffles.
Ed had an active career as a firefighter and Vice President of Shipman's Fire Equip. Co. in his hometown of East Lyme, CT and has been involved in numerous community and civic organization. He is a member of the Elks, New London County Fire Chiefs Assoc., Niantic Baptist Church Board of Trustees, and a volunteer with the Niantic Fire Department for over 40 years. After undergoing a single lung transplant in May of 2002, he was also a long-time volunteer for the New England Organ Bank a group which is near to his heart. He and his wife Jo Anne recently moved to Southport, NC.
