Profile:

Robert J. Fallat, MD has been working on the problem of genetic etiology of emphysema since his pulmonary medical residency training at Bellvue Hospital in New York City. That was in 1964, one year after the discovery of alpha-1 antitrypsin deficiency. He continued as a Fellow at the Cardiovascular Research Institute at UCSF (1966-1969) and since then as a practicing pulmonologist. Over the years, he has followed hundreds of these patients as he developed a Pulmonary and Critical Care Division at California Pacific Medical Center in San Francisco where he continues to maintain a pulmonary consultant practice. He is published in the area of critical care monitoring, pulmonary function testing, and Alpha-1. He is actively involved in the American Thoracic Society as well as the Alpha-1 Association Board of Directors. He has three children and one  grandchild that  he  loves to hike in

the mountains with.
