Dr. Reuben has been as associate editor of Hepatology and is on the editorial boards of Liver Transplantation and the World Journal of Gastroenterology.

Unlike the lung disease associated with Alpha-1, liver disease results from the toxic effects of defective Alpha-1 Antitrypsin protein that is retained in the liver, where it is made.
