hereditary component?

Postby ifred » Thu Dec 24, 2009 6:33 pm

hello, i am wondering if it is possible for my son to have alpha 1 if there isn't any family history (on mine or his father's side, up to his great-grandparents) of lung problems. he had an atypical result on a chest x-ray, and alpha-1 was mentioned as a possibility by the doctors. thanks very much, and blessings to all of you!

Yes, it is possible. In fact, we were unaware of any issues in our family when our daughter was diagnosed.

I hope it turns out for the better for your son.
